80m Delta Loop

simple 500w 4:1 Balun

Can be found on ebay or from various Ham Radio outlets. M0CVO antennas for example is where i bought mine

Polyweave antenna wire

100m lengths can be found on ebay. Nice and strong , but any insulated wire will do

The Formula for calculating length of your loop is:

Length (m) = 306/Freq

So for 80m: 306/3.6 = 85m (also add abit on for adjustment as its easier to cut than extend) If its too long DO NOT CUT, simply fold back on itself until you get the desired readings.

Works best as an equalateral triangle but you can configure it however it will fit in your garden. They even work well low to the ground. Height will change the impedance but if you are using a tuner this will not matter

If you want a Monoband loop simply replace the 4:1 balun with a 75 ohm section of coax 1/4 wavelength long at the frequency you want

Delta loop configurations

I chose option A for simplicity of feeding it from the mast. Beware, the vertical polarisation options are better for DX but sometimes noisier (I tried option D but found it too noisey)

Here is how mine looks in a giant Triangle fed from the top corner
